This year, the Annual Conference, titled “Roadmap to Sustainability and Inclusive Development: Microfinance as a Catalyst for Building Stronger Local Communities”, focuses on strengthening communities through microfinance and social inclusion.
Over the past 15 years, micro and small enterprises (MSEs) have had to navigate a series of unexpected crises that have had a profound impact on their ability to operate. From the global financial crisis and the cost-of-living crisis to climate-related shocks and the ongoing effects of the pandemic, many MSEs have found themselves unable to absorb the impact and have struggled to recover. While public sector institutions have invested considerable effort in supporting these businesses, there is an increasing recognition among microfinance institutions (MFIs) and entrepreneurship support organisations (ESOs) that entrepreneurs also need dedicated, long-term guidance to strengthen their financial health and resilience.
