Decent Work Training

  • Tuesday, 16th May 2023 - Friday, 9th June 2023

At YBI, our motto is to help young people to move from being “job seekers”, to being “job creators” through entrepreneurship.

When young people become entrepreneurs, they not only create jobs for themselves but also for other people and help drive economic growth locally.

Therefore, it is crucial that young entrepreneurs are familiar with and follow decent work principles, such as providing just and favourable remuneration for themselves and their employees, a safe and hygienic work environment, the right to rest and leisure, and access to their rights without distinction of any kind (e.g., race, gender, religion, etc.).

To help its members promote these principles among the young entrepreneurs they support, YBI, with support from Catalystas Consulting, conducted research in 2020 that culminated in the development of a training programme in Decent Work under its partnership with IKEA Foundation. Originally focused on India and Bangladesh, the training has been adapted to a global audience and is now open for other YBI members to join.

What will you gain from the training?

In this training, you will learn about decent work principles and how they are relevant for MSMEs, and we will highlight how MSMEs can use these principles to their advantage.

What is the training format?

The training consists of two 1-hour live sessions (one at the beginning and one at the end) and 9 self-paced modules that can be accessed via Google Classroom, over the course of 1 month.

The total duration of the course is around 5 hours (2 hours of live sessions and 3 hours to complete the self-paced modules). The modules also include some optional exercises, that would take you two more hours to complete.

Who is the training for?

The training is aimed at programme managers, trainers, coaches, and mentors who work directly with young entrepreneurs and wish to bring content on decent work to them.
