Celebrating International Women’s Day 2022

This International Women’s Day centred on raising awareness of biases against women and taking action for equality. We spotlighted the inspiring work of female entrepreneurs and mentors from across our global network, who each shared how they are working to #BreakTheBias and make entrepreneurship as inclusive as it can be.

The Rose Review of Female Entrepreneurship found that for every 10 male entrepreneurs in the UK, there are fewer than 5 female entrepreneurs. It’s clear that more work must be done to remove the barriers preventing female entrepreneurs from thriving. Our global network is consistently working towards equality and inclusivity in entrepreneurship, ensuring that every entrepreneur is given equal opportunity to succeed.

Meet Adelle, Secretary General for our Indonesian member YCAB Foundation. Adelle continues to inspire us through her dedication in reaching hundreds of female entrepreneurs through our partnerships with Google.org and Standard Chartered Foundation. With only 39% of women feeling confident in their entrepreneurial abilities compared to 55% of men, it is crucial for our network to ensure female entrepreneurs are supported in all aspects of their business, from improving digital skills and personal development, to benefiting from an inspiring mentor.

Maureen works for our member SOMO in Kenya to provide resources for sustainable enterprises. Maureen’s passion to make entrepreneurship inclusive and accessible is vital, considering that only one in three businesses is owned by women globally – Watch her explain how she is breaking the bias here:

Entrepreneur Anna was supported by our German member KIZ through our programme with Standard Chartered Foundation. Anna aims to use her own experiences of establishing a business to empower others to do the same.

Women entrepreneurs have a crucial role in contributing to the global economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as making long-lasting impacts on their communities. Our global network will continue to strive towards inclusive entrepreneurship, ensuring female entrepreneurs have the opportunity to break the bias.
