Enkhtuul, (27) a Veterinarian who runs a small-animal clinic Hatan Sevrei has always had a love of animals, and has become concerned about a lack of animal rights regarding pet ownership in her country Mongolia. She often saw pets being discarded due to lack of knowledge around care and responsibility when looking after pets.
The impact on the local ecology, natural environment, citizen safety and zoonotic diseases from increasing numbers of stray was an issue Enkhtuul was keen to address.
Increased awareness and responsibility among individuals is crucial for preventing the surge in stray animals, reducing the spread of diseases from animals to humans, mitigating soil pollution, and fostering the development of a more humane and friendly city.
Enkhtuul took part in YBI’s Green and Social toolkit pilot, supported by Development Solutions Mongolia.
“Applying the social and green business model has enabled a clearer understanding and articulation of our business values and vision. It emphasizes the importance of not only providing veterinary services but also contributing to the well-being of pets, responsible pet ownership, and the broader community.
Participating in the YBI training has been transformative for our company. It shed light on the disorganized state of our management documents and provided a structured approach to clarify our company’s vision, goals, and challenges. This newfound clarity has propelled us to formulate a comprehensive plan for improvement.”
Enkhtuul understands that the scale of the problem isn’t something she can tackle alone. She plans to expand her business and set up a clinical veterinary training centre as well as extending theirs services by introducing a mobile equipped vehicle. This will enable her to reach remote areas, providing health check-ups, consultations, treatments, and neutering surgeries outside of the traditional clinic environment.
