Khongorzul Batdelger’s story

Mongolia

Khongorzul Batdelger’s inspiring entrepreneurial journey began amidst the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. As a student in Wuhan, China, she was forced to return to her hometown, Xanadu, in the Gobi Desert of Southern Mongolia. During her time in Xanadu, she identified an untapped market for case-ready meats and decided to start her own meat concept store.

Noticing the high demand for case-ready meats in her hometown, Khongorzul drew from her family’s background in dairy cow farming and came up with the idea of selling Gobi herbs-flavoured meat. The unique flavour combination quickly garnered attention, and her customer base grew unexpectedly.

As soon as Khongorzul kick started her business, she got in touch with YBI member Youth Business Mongolia- Development Solutions, who paired her with a business mentor. The mentorship provided valuable guidance, enabling her to develop a solid business plan. With a well-prepared proposal, she successfully secured a bank loan with concessional terms and a small grant from the Employment Promotion Fund. These funds were invested in purchasing freezers and vacuum machinery, significantly improving her production line’s efficiency and capacity.

Khongorzul proactively expanded her product offerings to cater to diverse customer preferences. She introduced 13 different concepts of meat, ranging from goulash meat, ribs, and brisket to tongue, bone-in meat, steak meat, loin meat, and collar bone. Recently, she added a range of dumplings to her product catalogue too. She has also secured contracts with local nurseries, supplying them with her quality meat products.

Thanks to Khongorzul’s efforts, the impact of mentorship, and strategic investments, her business has flourished. She currently employs four full-time workers and three part-time workers to meet the growing demands. Since the inception of her business, annual sales have doubled, reflecting the success and sustainability of her meat concept store.

Khongorzul’s thriving business not only meets the local community’s demands for quality meat but also contributes to the economic development of the region. By providing employment opportunities, she plays an essential role in supporting the livelihoods of her employees and positively impacting the local economy.
